Groudle Glen Railway Volunteers

The volunteers were founded to restore the steam railway in Groudle Glen. The original railway opened in 1896 and closed in 1962. Restoration began in 1982 with the first section of line reopened in 1986.

Work parties take place at weekends during the off season and the train runs in the summer and at Christmas

The trust owns and manages various wildlife sites throughout the Island.

In Onchan they are responsible for The Onchan Wetlands right in the heart of the village. Local volunteers welcome to help with the maintenance by way of litter removal, pruning of saplings, clearing of ponds etc. Meets approx four times per year

Meetings are held monthly on the second Tuesday.

The object is to teach flower arranging whilst at the same time amuse, using flowers and plant material in interesting ways. New members are made very welcome. Regular demonstrations are given by visiting designers. There are also garden visits, coffee mornings, social evenings as well as practical nights.

An annual show is held in the Youth and Community Centre in the early part of the year

This is the only squash club on the island operated by squash players for the benefit of squash players. In addition to the squash courts the social facilities includes the Kennedy Lounge which may be used free of charge by members for social events of all kinds such as birthday parties, engagement parties, wedding receptions etc

Douglas Dog Training Club

DDTC is an obedience and agility dog training club which meets in Onchan
and is Kennel Club Registered.

Meetings take place in an Onchan Hall on
Tuesday evenings and at an outside venue for the agility section on Saturdays. Summertime meetings take place in Onchan Park.
