Derek CrellinHis mother's family (Quilliam) had lived in Onchan from the 1890s, firstly in Governors Road and then in Queens Road.

He was born in October 1949 and brought up at 10 Sea View Road in a house built by his mother's brother Stanley Quilliam. He was educated at Onchan Primary School and Douglas High School for Boys.

On leaving school in 1965, he entered the employment of Messrs Thomas E. Kelly, stationers and office equipment suppliers in Douglas.

On 9th November 1969 he joined the Isle of Man Constabulary serving in the Douglas and Southern Divisions. In June 1977 he was transferred to Onchan where he served as a constable until 1986 when he returned to Douglas and promoted to the rank of sergeant.

Eighteen months later he was back in Onchan where he served as sergeant until his retirement on 24th March 2000.

His responsibilities covered Onchan, Laxey, Willaston, Pulrose and Peel.

Prior to joining the police he was actively involved as a member of the Onchan Crown Green Bowling Club, Onchan Fur and Feather Society and a playing member of Onchan A.F.C.

Since his retirement he has become a member of Friends of Onchan's Heritage and the T.T. Marshalls Association. He has as his hobbies crown green bowling, walking, cycling, gardening and collection memorabilia.

He was elected a Commissioner in April 2000 filling the vacancy caused by David Cowell not seeking re-election.
