Brian StowellBorn in January 1952, he lived with his parents in Royal Avenue and attended Onchan Primary School before moving onto Douglas High School for Boys.

His parents ran a coach and lorry business with their garage in The Butt and an ancestor, Amelia Stowell, was the wife of the Manx National Poet, T.E. Brown.

Leaving school he became apprenticed to W. Mullins Limited, electrical engineers of Douglas and after a year transferred his apprenticeship to Douglas Corporation Electricity Department for a further two years.

He then worked for a year as machine maintenance manager for P.R. Ashe Amusements before joining the Tourist Board as a public relations officer being with them from 1973 to 1975. For the next three years he was managing director of Mend a Bend Limited and then from 1978 to 1984 he traded as Stowell Electrical Contracting.

Next came a move to the H.S.S Hire Group PLC and a rôle as district manager for Ireland and the Isle of Man. From 1989 to 1992 he worked for Anglo International Limited as project manager at the Mount Murray Hotel complex. The next four years were spent as managing director of Tods Limited the wholesale plumbing suppliers.

Then he took over Glenville Farm in the Rural Ward running it as a livery stable with tack shop which he continues to do along with Stowell Properties, a personal portfolio of property ownership and management.

In 1987 he married his second wife, Christina Taylor, the same year as he became a member of British Mensa. Since leaving school he has taken and passed BTec examinations in management studies, production engineering and electronics.

He also obtained a private pilot’s licence and in 1995 was named as Pilot of the Year by the local flying club. He has resided in King Edward Park since 1979. He was elected as a commissioner at an uncontested election in May 2004 filling one of the vacancies caused by Howard Parkin and Elizabeth Kelly not standing again.

He was elected Chairman of the Board in May 2009
