Commissioners Information - Housing

Applications for general housing in the Onchan area.

At least one of the applicants who are parties to an application must have resided in the Isle of Man for a period of at least 10 years, five of which must have been spent in the Onchan area.

No applications will be considered from single people under the age of 18. Single applicants accepted onto the waiting list should be aware that suitable accommodation may be in short supply.

Applicants who presently own their own home are required to submit a FULL VALUATION by an estate agent, together with written confirmation of any outstanding mortgage/charges on the property.

Applicants are required to declare whether anyone who is party to the application either singly or jointly, has savings in excess of £15,000. This must include the net result of the sale of a previously owned property, whether solely or jointly owned.

The total gross income of the applicant or applicants must not exceed £27,500 per annum. In the case of a couple with one child this figure is £29,800; two children £32,100 or three children £34,400. All applicants are required to provide details of income in the form of either 3 recent pay advices or benefits/pension vouchers.

Application forms and further information are available from the Housing Officer at the Commissioners' Offices. An appointment system is in operation.

Applications for sheltered housing in the Onchan area.

In order to apply for housing in the Isle of Man at least one of the applicants should have lived in the Isle of Man for 10 years sometime since birth.

Sheltered housing applicants are required to be above state retirement age.

A judgment will be made as to whether house owners have a need for sheltered housing.
