LOCAL ELECTIONS ACT 1986
ONCHAN DISTRICT COMMISSIONERS
NOTICE OF ELECTION
Notice is hereby given that an election of ONE member of
the ONCHAN DISTRICT COMMISSIONERS for the Urban Ward for the period to
1 st May 2008 will be held on THURSDAY, 18th January 2007 .
Forms of Nomination may be obtained from the undersigned at the Commissioners’ Offices,
Hawthorn Villa, Main Road, Onchan during normal office hours during the
period up to and including the 18th day
of December 2006.
The form of nomination paper includes instructions as to its completion
and signing.
A nomination paper duly completed must be delivered to the undersigned before
5.00 p.m. on the 18th day of December 2006 at the Commissioners
Offices, Hawthorn Villa, Main Road, Onchan.
In the event of a contested election polling will take place on
18th day of January 2007 .
Nominated candidates may obtain one copy of the register of electors for
the Urban Ward or Rural Ward of Onchan District as appropriate from the
undersigned free of charge.
Copies of the Local Elections Act 1986, the Onchan District Act 1986,
the Representation of the People Act 1995, the Local Election Rules 2003
and the Local Elections (Absent Voters) Regulations 1996 are available
from the Central Reference Library in Government Office.
ABSENT VOTERS
Absent voters' ballot papers can be obtained only by means of an application
duly completed and received by the undersigned:-
- where the absent voter’s ballot paper is to be marked in the
Isle of Man, not later than Thursday
11th January 2007 .
- where the absent voter’s ballot paper is to be marked elsewhere
than in the Isle of Man, not later than Thursday
4th January 2007.
Absent voters' ballot papers will be issued to persons whom the returning
officer has accepted as being entitled to vote as such at the address in
the Isle of Man or elsewhere as notified to the undersigned:-
- where the ballot paper is to be marked in the Isle of Man, at least
2 clear days before the day fixed for the poll; or
- where the ballot paper
is to be marked elsewhere than in the Isle of Man, at least 9 clear
days before the day fixed for the poll.
Provided that where the absent voter’s ballot paper is to be marked
in the Isle of Man the ballot paper may be delivered to the absent voter
at any time before the close of the poll.
Application forms are available from the undersigned during normal office
hours.
The Representation of the People Act 1995 enables the following people
to be treated as absent voters:-
- those unable or likely to be unable, by reason of age, blindness,
incapacity, sickness or infirmity, to go in person to the polling station
or, if able to go, to vote in person;
- those unable or likely to be unable to go in person to the polling
station on the date of poll by reason of absence from the Isle of Man;
- persons performing official duties in connection with the election.
TAKE NOTICE that all persons who are guilty of bribery, treating, undue
influence, personation or other corrupt practices at the election, are,
on conviction of such offence, liable to the penalties mentioned in that
behalf in the Representation of the People Act 1995.
