The Authority carries out the refuse collection service for the district. We currently have four refuse vehicles and ten drivers/collectors.Our aim is to provide a reliable and efficient service for our
residents and would ask that you assist in this by placing your
wheelie bin at the curtilage of the property with the handle facing
the road by 7.00 am in the morning of the
collection day. Please note: Do not put hot ashes in the bin as this may damage the bin. Stone, brick or builder's rubble should not be placed in the bin as this can cause damage to the machinery in the refuse vehicle. Bins containing refuse of this nature will not be emptied. Any damaged wheeled bin will be collected and if the damage is caused by fair wear and tear, this will be replaced free of charge. In any other circumstances a charge will be made for the replacement container. Please see our Refuse Services, Frequently Asked Questions pageIMPORTANT NOTICEOnchan District Commissioners are using the Energy from Waste Plant as the primary route for disposal of all domestic and commercial refuse following the commissioning of the plant. With this change from using landfill, there are certain types of waste, such as soil, car parts and gas cylinders which should not be disposed of with household waste as this may cause the plant operator to reject our delivery of the load. A full list of waste that is not accepted by the Energy from Waste Plant is below. If you have any queries over what can be disposed of as domestic rubbish, please contact the Waste Operations Development Officer at Onchan District Commissioners Surveyor’s Department on 624967.
Note 1: Small quantities permitted in household
refuse. Please help us to provide an efficient and cost-effective service to all our customers by not putting unsuitable material into your main collection.Normal collection days are as follows:- |
