The Christmas Lighting Trophy

The trophy for the Christmas Lights has been engraved on glass by Malcolm Smith of Manx Rockcraft and Celtic Engravings.

Malcolm has engraved other glass trophies for the commissioners in the past including the reproduction of the Onchan Crest.

2006 Competition

This year’s competition saw another slight change to the method of judging as instead of dividing Onchan into ten areas it was prejudged by electoral ward i.e. Ballachurry, Birch Hill, Hague, Howstrake and Rural.

A commissioner in each case toured the ward and listed the top three domestic properties and any commercial properties displaying Christmas Lights in that area. The recommendations for each area were then judged by the Chairman of the Board and the Chairman of the Leisure and Amenities Committee. The trophies were presented on Friday 29 th December.

Christmas Light Award Winners of the domestic property were Mandy and Sean Beattie of 15 Groudle View.

Christmas Lights Award The winner of the commercial property section this year was Onchan Pensioners Social Club in Elm Tree Road.

In the past their display has included a large wooden board with painted snowmen but this year they had a new display which appealed to the judges.
