Christmas Lights Trophy
The Christmas Lighting Trophy
The
trophy for the Christmas Lights has been engraved on glass by Malcolm Smith
of Manx Rockcraft and Celtic Engravings.
Malcolm has engraved other glass trophies for the commissioners in the
past including the reproduction of the Onchan Crest.
2008 Competition
The mechanical services company of SCS combined with the Onchan Rotary
Club to put on a Christmas display in their Main Road shop window.
In
addition to lights the display included a paper sculpture by Jean Davie
of Victoria Avenue, Onchan.
Alex Bischux from Onchan Rotary Club and SCS Ltd received the trophy
for
the best decorated commercial property from June Kelly, Lead Member
for
Properties and Amenities.

The Onchan Rotary Club also used the SCS premises as a collection
depot
before Christmas for the donation of tinned food for the provision
of
food hampers to the elderly and needy of Onchan.

The paper sculpture by Jean Davie is picked
out by the use of spot lights. Miss Davie was formerly art
teacher at Douglas High School and was a winner of Crosh Pobble Chonnaghyn,
the Onchan Community Award in 2006 (see Commissioners Gallery 2006).

The Unwin family of 5 Briarfield Avenue,
Birch Hill Park receive their trophy for the best decorated domestic
property from Commissioner June Kelly with Board Chairman Derek Crellin
on the left hand side of the group.

The Unwins had in fact decided not to
put up their Christmas lights this year but mothers passing the house
taking their children to Ashley Hill School asked if they would put
them up again as the children liked them. In addition to the
house being decorated an illuminated crib has been set at the front
of the garden.
