Civic Sunday was held on Sunday 22nd July in bright sunshine. The
parade lined up in the car park of the Onchan Youth and Community Centre
and then proceeded down School Road, Main Road and Church Road to St
Peter's Church for a service conducted by Canon Malcolm Convery the
Vicar of Onchan.
As has been the custom for many years the parade was led by Onchan
Silver Band. On this occasion the conductor was Juan Wright. |
Following the band came representatives of the Onchan Branch of
the
Royal British Legion.

The 2nd Onchan Scout Group turned out in good numbers led by the
scouts. .
|
Next came the Cub Scouts of which there are two packs.
|
The beavers are the youngest members of the scout family and they
are
seen here with one of their leaders Steve Karran.
|
The
Explorer Scouts were followed by representatives of the Brownies
who
were then followed by representatives of all clubs and societies
in
Onchan, senior civil servants, Government Ministers, local MHKs and
MLCs, other local authority members and chairmen followed by members
of
the Onchan Board and ending with the Chairman.

As
the congregation came out of church it was time to catch up with
people not seen since the previous Civic Sunday. Captain of the Parish
Harvey Briggs shakes hands with His Honour Deemster Kerruish. Following
them are commissioners Maurice Kennaugh and Wendy Megson.

His
Worship the Mayor of Douglas Councillor Caine and Mrs Caine were
present. They are followed by Brenda Crellin, President of the Isle
of
Man Municipal Association. In the foreground is Roz Bates of Laxey
Commissioners.

Leaving
the church are the Chairman of Onchan Commissioners Tim Norton
JP accompanied by his wife Karen. Behind them is Malcolm Hulme the
Clerk to the Commissioners. |
