Onchan Christmas 2009

Christmas 2009

On Sunday 20th December Father Christmas came to Onchan in the snow courtesy of the Rotary Club of Onchan.  He arrived a little earlier than the planned 2pm having been at Laxey but his visit to Baldrine was curtailed due to hailstones and blizzard type conditions and even after popping in to the Liverpool Arms for a cup of coffee they were still ten minutes early.

Fortunately some of the snow which had fallen during the night had melted and Rudolph was able to make it up the slope into the commissioners' office car park.  Here he is seen tackling the ramp with the Methodist Church on Main Road in the background.

Around 800 notes had been sent home via the two primary schools in Onchan to advise as to Rudolph and Father Christmas' visit.

The sleigh and all that goes with it were on loan from the Douglas Rotary Club who first started pre Christmas visits to Onchan back in the 1950s.

Since the formation of the Onchan Rotary Club their members have provided all the helpers.  Here, President of the Onchan Club, Nigel Dobson, can be seen helping children onto the sleigh to receive a small gift of sweets from Father Christmas who had braved the cold of the journey from Laxey.
