REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY AT ONCHAN

The annual service was held at the Onchan War Memorial this year on Sunday 13th November 2005 at 10.50am. The service was led by Canon Malcolm Convery of St Peter's Church assisted by Rev. Chris Belfield of the Onchan Methodist Church. The service used to be held later in the morning which meant the priest and congregation of St Anthony's Church and the congregation of the Onchan Baptist Church were also able to take part following their own Sunday services

The array of wreaths laid by the British Legion, Commissioners, the schools, Onchan Silver Band, 2nd Onchan Scouts, St John Ambulance and many other groups on Sunday 13th November 2005. The Onchan memorial was carved out of Irish limestone by Thomas Quayle of St George's Street in Douglas to the designs of Archibald Knox. It was paid for by public subscription and then placed in the joint care of Onchan Parish and Onchan Village Commissioners. The responsibility for the memorial now lies with the Onchan District Commissioners.
