St Peter's Church as seen looking down Church Road from near its junction with Harbour Road. In the foreground is one of the streetlights which were installed last year. They are on columns that once belonged to the Isle of Man Harbour Board and stood on the various piers at Douglas. The lantern heads are actually copper but were painted over to resemble the original gas lamps installed by the commissioners in 1904. Photo Chris Quirk |

Port Jack Glen and a view out over Douglas Bay where a number of cargo vessels have been sheltering of recent. The glen is a natural ravine caused by the ice age and has been a public glen since 1892. Photo Chris Quirk |

Down at the Village Green the Pooilvaaish stone cross erected in Millennium Year (2000) shows up in contrast against the snowy background. The stone was carved with the outline of a cross as to be seen in one of the ancient crosses in the display area of St Peter's Church. The same cross is carved on the back of the Onchan War Memorial as designed by Archibald Knox. Notice also the daffodils coming up on the bank of the former millrace. Photo Chris Quirk |

Just along from the Village Green is the Onchan Wetlands, a nature reserve run by The Manx Wildlife Trust. In addition to birds the area is also home to frogs. This was once the site of a mill dam for the mill which was part way down Royal Avenue (before the road was constructed). When taken over by the trust a small pond was created and a boardwalk made through the marsh area. Photo Chris Quirk |
