Our team of part-time staff cover the library on a rota basis over 6 days a week.
Melanie Jones BA (Hons), PG (Dip)
Left the island to study Information and Library Management at the Manchester Metropolitan University with a specialism in children’s services, working with public children’s and schools library services. Gained a further qualification in Electronic Information Management.
Spent a number of years working in London and the south east in a range of sectors including: local government information services, public libraries with responsibility for reference, information and local studies, sixth form and further education learning resources. Returned to the island as a higher education Learning Resources Manager. Appointed Head Librarian at Onchan Library in 2020 following a period of cover as Librarian.
Current priorities include: updating collections, development of the library management information system bringing library services online for public access, refurbishment and planning upgrade and development of children’s services, improved IT facilities and support.
Cheryl Killey Myers BA (Hons)
Cheryl developed a love of reading as a child, becoming an avid reader at the Eastfield library in Scarborough. Cheryl has since worked at the Central Library in Halifax, and been a member of book groups at Whitby and Douglas libraries. She also worked as part of the team at both the Whitby Bookshop and the Bridge Bookshop, IOM. Cheryl has a degree in English Literature and was appointed Library Assistant at Onchan Library in 2020.
“Studying English Literature with the OU for five years introduced me to books I would never have picked up, and helped me to get my first article published online. Now I'm free to read for pleasure, I'm enjoying the experience of taking my time over discovering new authors. I am delighted to be working in the Harvey Briggs Onchan Library and am renovating my home, so I will finally fulfil my dream of having a home library in 2021.”

Quinn Shipton BA (Hons)
Quinn undertook a period of voluntary work with the library whilst at school to achieve her Duke of Edinburgh Award. After school, Quinn decided to study illustration at Falmouth University, and is an illustrator and maker. Quinn was appointed Library Assistant at Onchan Library in 2014.
“My work has been featured locally on milk cartons, in papers and magazines and pieces from my online shop have ended up all over the world. I love to read contemporary romance, science fiction and mythology retellings”.
