Harvey Briggs Cup for Writing 2016

Roald Dahl was the theme for this year's Harvey Briggs Cup for Writing, with children writing a story, poem or article inspired by the work of this celebrated writer. Onchan author and poet, Elizabeth Adams, kindly judged the competition once again, and commented that her work was made all the more difficult this year, as the standard of entries was so high. She selected joint winners - Charlotte Babb age 12 with her story 'An Unhappy Onding' and Megan Butler age 8 for her Roald Dahl inspired poem. Evie Colquitt age 9, Lily Cowell age 10, and Megan Hills age 10 were all awarded runners-up places.

Our thanks to Elizabeth Adams and Kathryn Williams, Onchan District Commissioner's Lead Member for Properties and Amenities, for presenting the winners with their prizes at the library.

The Harvey Briggs Cup for Writing Competition was founded by Harvey Briggs in 2005 to encourage children to write. We are delighted to continue this tradition in memory of a great Onchan gentleman, renowned for his long standing Farming Correspondent columns for Isle of Man Newspapers.
