Onchan Youth and Community Centre Refurbishment

The Commissioners have approved a refurbishment program for the Youth and Community Centre which is designed to provide more usable accommodation. The layout of the existing unit meant that it was not suitable for multiple bookings even though there were rooms available, as access to those rooms and toilet accommodation meant passing through the main hall disturbing anyone using the hall. The new layout is designed so that there are two large halls which, if required can be opened up to form one larger hall. There is also a smaller club facility with its own separate external entrance. All halls will have tea stations to permit users to provide some simple catering facilities.

As part of the refurbishment the complex will receive an upgrade to the external fabric providing additional insulation and a new heating system which should reduce the running costs for the centre.

The contractors, NK Construction, commenced works on site in November 2016 with the stripping out of the existing building interior. They are well underway with the construction of new internal walls and have started installing the new electrical wiring.

Works are due for completion at the end of March and we will release details of the facilities and charges in due course.
