Means Testing

Onchan District Commissioners are considering their response to the consultation on the High Level Policy for Means Testing issued by the IOM Government Cabinet Office, and are keen to incorporate the views of Onchan residents.

The Commissioners feel that the principle of "Means Testing" is one that will affect the lives of all members of our community who use or expect to use services provided by either central or local government. These can be in the areas of Education, Health Care, Social Security or Housing. The list is not exhaustive and could grow at any time. Some of these services, such as Housing, are already provided by this local authority, and the impact could affect who can receive services in future, and on what terms.

This is a consultation on the principles which will guide creation of specific government policies and is the important first step in changing the way we pay for and receive public services. Your views matter, and the full consultation document is available in the Harvey Briggs Onchan Library or can be accessed on line at:

If you want the Commissioners to include your view in their submission, please write, e-mail or post a comment prior to 1st August. The Commissioners will finalise their response at the meeting on 14th August.

You can also make a direct response to the Government under the consultation procedure, and the closing date for those submissions is Friday 18th August.
