Coffee and a Cooish

When Harvey Briggs Onchan Library first opened back in 1944, the Chairman said that he hoped that the library would be a place for a 'Cooish' as well as to borrow books. It's been a tradition ever since, and one the library team especially enjoyed on World Book Night when they welcomed Eastern Live At Home members and volunteers for 'Coffee and a Cooish'.

World Book Night is a national book celebration, which takes place on 23rd April every year. It's run by the Reading Agency to encourage reading for pleasure, and they supplied the library with copies of 'Our Summer Together' by best-selling author Fanny Blake to give to the Eastern Live at Home and share the companionship that reading can bring.

As well as having a good cooish, Eastern Live at Home members enjoyed a reading by local poet Dennis Turner, author of ‘Manx Myths’ and ‘Manx Myths and More’; an Island Trivia Quiz and some local nostalgia with a display of old photographs.

Eastern Live At Home is a Manx Charity helping over 700 local people to live independently in their own homes without becoming isolated. They offer friendship, support, and a wide range of social activities.
