Wonderful Wormery Workshop!

Local children enjoyed a wonderful Wormery Workshop at Harvey Briggs Onchan Library recently. Dawn Dickens, Biodiversity Education Officer for Manx Wildlife Trust, gave everyone a fun and fascinating insight into the world of these little creatures who do so much to help the earth and wildlife.

Dawn explained that worms have not been flourishing this summer, and that was having an impact on local wildlife such as hedgehogs. Hedgehogs can benefit from food such as meaty dog or cat food left out in gardens. All the wormeries children created at the workshop will help local wildlife too.

The Wormery Workshop was the first of a Summer programme of free children’s activities being held at the library throughout the Summer holidays. There is also a Beano themed ‘Mischief Makers’ Summer Reading Challenge, kindly supported by Old Mutual International of Onchan. It’s fun, free and local – contact the library to find out more.
