80 Bed Care Home, King Edward Road - Planning Appeal Not Upheld

Onchan District Commissioners are disappointed that the Minister for Environment, Food and Agriculture, Mr G. Boot MHK, has approved an application in principle for an 80 bed nursing care home, despite Onchan District Commissioners appealing against the application.  The Appeals Inspector, after considering all the evidence, recommended that the Appeal should be upheld and that the application in principle be refused on the grounds that the development would be contrary to the Onchan Local Plan 2000.

The Lead Member for Environmental and Technical Services commented that “We are extremely disappointed by the Minister’s decision to completely disregard established planning policies set out in the Onchan Local Plan and does not appear to have been environmentally friendly.”   The Lead Member goes on to say that “the planning appeal process is at a cost to Onchan ratepayers and that the planning fee of £175 and officers time should be reclaimed from the Department”.
