ELECTORAL INFORMATION

A local authority general election will take place across the Island on Thursday 23rd April 2020.   The residents of Onchan have the opportunity to choose 7 Commissioners to represent Onchan on the Board of Onchan District Commissioners, with the newly elected Commissioners taking up office from the 1st May 2020 for a period of four years.

The 2020 general local election process has commenced with the Department of Infrastructure determining the date for the general election, which has been set for Thursday 23rd April 2020.   

The Department will publish the Notice of Election on 17th March 2019 on which date nomination papers will be available for interested parties.    The nomination papers must be delivered to the Returning Officer at the Commissioners Office by 31st March 2020.  

To stand as a local authority member you must appear on a Register of Electors on the Island – you do not have to be registered in the constituency for which you are standing. If you wish to nominate or assent to a candidate, or vote at the elections you must be on the Register of Electors for the specific constituency concerned.

• attend a political surgery which is held the first Saturday of each month at The Hub, School Road, Onchan.
• speak to an existing Commissioner
• follow Onchan District Commissioners on social media and keep up-to-date by “liking” or “following” their page or profile

You can check whether you appear of the Register of Electors at the local authority offices for your constituency, the Registers for Electors for Onchan is available to inspect at the Commissioners’ Office during normal office hours.
