Poetry Competition - Winners announced

2014 will mark 100 years since the outbreak of the First World War. To mark this occasion we invited pupils from the Onchan Schools to write a poem with the theme of 'Remembrance' concerning military conflict.  There was an extremely high standard of entries, and after a very difficult task, the following pupils were selected as winners.

  • Miss Lisa McGhee, St Ninians High School
  • Miss Lucy Skillicorn, Ashley Hill Primary School
  • Master Ethan Stewart, Onchan Primary School.

The poems have been submitted to the Mason to start work on the flagstone for Onchan War Memorial to mark 100 years since the outbreak of the First World War.   The words will be carved in to the stone, and will become a permanent part of the history of our Village.
