On Monday 16th June 2025 ahead of the regular Commissioners meeting, six members of the Board, the Chief Executive Clerk and the District Surveyor met with the DOI Minister Michelle Haywood and two members of staff from her Department.
The meeting was conducted professionally and questions were asked in particular on the budget for the works, the fact that sign poles has been erected before the consultation end date in July and what involvement the Police would have with this project.
In principle some members of the Board were supportive of some aspects, namely areas around schools and elderly person complexes; some were less convinced on the merits of the blanket approach across all areas of Onchan.
It would be accurate to conclude the Board had mixed views and that in itself would be a reflection of the spectrum of views held by residents.
The Board will continue to engage with the DOI and submit further information via the consultation process in the hope that the outcome will be close to what the public wants.

Chairman on behalf of Onchan District Commissioners.
